After a really nice time in and around Brisbane, it’s time for me to move on. I’m now starting to travel up the Australia East Coast from Brisbane to Cairns. – “In Response to: Amazing day @ North Stradbroke Island“
How am I traveling along the Australia East Coast?
You may remember that I planned to travel with the Greyhound-Bus along the Australia East Coast at the beginning of my journey?!
– Well, I changed my mind. Why?
I was told there’s also the option to travel this distance by train. And depending on what kind of ticket you buy, you can also hop on and off at a lot of stations if you want to.
What kind of ticket did I buy?
I bought the “East Coast Discovery Pass”. With this pass you can only travel in one direction (in my case from brisbane to cairns). But you can hop on and off as many times as you want and have 6months to do so! And by the way, this ticket is even cheaper than the greyhound-bus-ticket for the same distance.
With what kind of trains am I allowed to travel?
I’m not quite sure if there’s any other trains I can travel with, but I’m for sure allowed to travel with “The Sunlander” and the “Tilt Train”. Both trains are really comfortable. It’s more like traveling by plane, just that you’re on the ground :-D.
You have enough space for your legs, screens with movies in each car and of course also a dining car in the middle of the train.
As you can see, I’m really glad I decided to take the train instead of the greyhound-bus as it’s much more comfortable but not more expensive! :)
Where exactly am I going and what am I going to do there?
Hervey Bay & Fraser Island
Right now I’m just sitting on the balcony of “The Friendly” in Hervey Bay while writing this post. So Hervey Bay is my first stop at the East Coast. Tomorrow I’m gonna go to Fraser Island – I booked a one-day Hummer-Trip. That’s gonna be amazing :)! At least I hope so, as it had really good reviews on TripAdvisor.
On Thursday I’ll leave Hervey Bay to continue my Australia East Coast Travel.
Airlie Beach & Whitsunday Islands
On Friday I’ll arrive at Airlie Beach – the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands. Haven’t booked anything so far, but my plan is to do a 2 or 3days Sailing-Cruise around and between the Whitsunday Islands. I’ve heard it’s supposed to be really beautiful!
Townsville & Magnetic Island
I’m not sure yet if I will, but I’m thinking about also visiting Townsville and Magnetic Island (situated on the Australia East Coast south of Cairns). Why? – On Magnetic Island live over 2500 wild Koalas. And since Koalas are really really adorable, I might go and visit them :).
Cairns & Great Barrier Reef
My last stop at the Australia East Coast will be Cairns. I’m gonna spend a couple days there to go diving at the Great Barrier Reef, go skydiving several kilometers above it or just do whatever I feel like :).
After that I’ll fly back to Darwin and two days later it’s unfortunately already time to say goodbye Australia for this year.
>>> But well, as you can see there is a lot of exciting things I’ll enjoy before I leave, so make sure you keep on following me here on my Australia-Travel-Blog.
Thank you very much!
