On Sunday I had my first day off. I spent my time going for a walk through Batchelor…
– What a PULSATING little town!! (…not!). Okay maybe it isn’t a big city, but it is a quite peaceful little town with all-year good weather and a few places to visit.
Shopping in Batchelor N.T.
As Batchelor is a really small town (population of about 500), there are of course not that big supermarkets or shopping-centers. But there are 2 little shops where you can get everything you need for your daily life.
Both shops are located with a small fuel-station. The BP-Fuel-Station also has a workshop where you can let your car be fixed if anything is broken. (That is where I’m working at – see also previous post). The Batchelor General Store includes the Post office and is located right next to a bar.
Even though Batchelor isn’t that big, it offers quite a few leisure facilities. There are playgrounds, basketball & tennis court, small skate-park, swimming pool and a library. But I got to say, when I was at the swimming pool on sunday, it was closed although the opening hours said it should be opened… Also everything looks kind of desolated like you can see on the pictures below.
Gastronomy in Batchelor N.T.
If you are looking for a Bar, Restaurant or Hotel in Batchelor, don’t worry! There are some…but not too many :)
Right next to the Batchelor General Store, you’ll find a bar. Of course you get drinks, snacks and are even able to play Pool-Billards if you want to!
Butterfly Farm is located behind BP-Fuel station mentioned earlier.
It offers a Restaurant, Accomodation, Playground, Pets Garden, Pool and Ponds. If you want to stay with your family or a bigger group in Batchelor, this will be the place where you can stay. They also have their own website, check it out: http://www.butterflyfarm.net/
I know that there’s also at least 1 more restaurant in Batchelor, but I haven’t been there yet, so unfortunately I can’t tell anything about it.
As you may have noticed, in Batchelor N.T. isn’t a big city life. But if you want to calm down and enjoy the nice weather, it is a nice place to be.
Near to this town there is “Litchfield National Park” which is known as a really nice place with beautiful waterfalls. I’m going to visit that next Sunday and let you know how I like it!
If you’ve also visited Batchelor in Northern Territory and want to add something to my report, feel free to write a comment! Thank you.
