I’m planning to do a longer trip through Australia, which kind of visa do I need?
It depends on the duration of your trip and if you want to earn money down under or not. For my 2months-journey the eVisitor – Visa was the right one. If you want, you can read more about the eVisitor and where to apply for it, here: Australian Visa
Perhaps I’m going to rent a car down under to be flexible to reach my destinations whenever I like to. Do you have any advice?
At first you have to think about the long distances in Australia. In some parts of Australia you’ll need an all-wheel-drive. Also fuel isn’t that cheap (right now, 2013/07/09, about 1.70 AUD). But of course there are a lot of regions where it is really nice to have a own car. If you decide to rent one, keep in mind that in Australia you sit on the right site of your car and drive on the left site of the street.
Do I need an international drivers license?
Yes. You could have luck with nice police officers that accept your foreign driver-license but it is better to have an international one. It is really cheap and easy to get. Read more about it here: International driver license
If I travel down under, what kind of health insurance is recommended?
It is always better to have a foreign health insurance that in any case covers the affords. Usually foreign health insurances aren’t that expensive and save you a lot of hassle and money if anything happens: Foreign health insurance
My journey starts already soon and I don’t know what to pack. Do you have any advice?
I posted on this site: Australia packing list a list of stuff that I packed for my 56days journey. If you want, just have a look at it, I think there might be a lot of things that could be useful for your journey too!
I haven’t booked any flight so far, as I don’t know which airline to take. Do you have any experiences concerning airlines on this flight to Australia?
I flew with Singapore Airlines and all-in-all really enjoyed it. Just have a look on my flight report, maybe this helps you to decide.
